Forever Alone With Nobody Else; Forever Together With My Own Damn Self
Now I’ve never had a significant other
Just my family, a significant mother
Who taught me that you can direct your own fate
And you don’t need a date to find your soul, mate.
I’ve found myself floating through heaven and hell
And no one to catch me out there when I fell
But myself, no gift, no Nobel
Prize your talents because you don't need others
To tell you that you could be or should be or what to commit
Two years from now I’ll be looking at this
So proud of myself for not wasting my wits
Or whining and giving all up when I felt
Like I got the bad cards right after they were dealt,
Like I was shown the short end of the stick,
I feel I was given the thinner than thick
Because I never was able to impress you
‘Cause no one seems to appreciate just what I can do,
Oh wait, I do.
I don’t give a thought ‘bout you anymore
Well I do, just not sentimental
‘Cause all of those thoughts were just so detrimental
To me thinking I needed praise or approval
From someone I won’t talk to ten years in my future
Now, the only person that I rely on is me,
To heal my own wounds, to sew my own sutures
To make myself happy, to let me be free
To make sure that I get my Vitamin D,
Defend your own self otherwise, you will feel screwed
When no one else seems to recognize what you do.
