forever is extinct
men will come along
who will not love you
or wish to harbor your magnificence
they would rather
observe your boldness in its sinking
televise the sun’s gleam on your half drowned skin
as you extend your palms to the merciless sun in earnest begging
pleading for its rays to ascend you from these waters
clear and serene
as crystalline tears spilled from plastered eyelids
not build to dam mountains
and his neglect holds the weight of lands
stretched indefinitely amongst galaxies
though you be but a moon
waxing and waning to the cycle of this abuse
he holds you on sabbath days
when whiskey sits out of reach
and beautiful bodies lie on other men’s tables
you be supplement
you be ramen noodles whipped into plastic bowls
he haves you only on dark days
sundays spent in hungered silence
his teeth striking at your disgraceful loneliness
its friction birthing vibrations honey as jazz
somber though at its inorganic core
this is how he owns you
plays your body like sweet guitar
plucking at the string of your will
and feigning pleasantry at the ballad of your dependence
and they fray each day
detangled from your bases
as he wires them around his own
but once he refrains
you spiral to inconsistency
let your autonomy be compromised
by his thirst for a quick fix
thin clothes and thick hands come undone
and he lets go, he just lets go
