Forget Me Not

Time stood still down unpaved streets We ran but did not lose breath A world where goodbyes are evident and happiness is but a temptress Sincerity earned from nights of fingers crossed and humble promises Before the chaos moments only outlines on a calendar Given up anything once held with significance remaining only a forgotten reminder of innocence Not to sacrifice would be a sacrifice in itself Eyes blinked in simultaneous repetition Black x’s atop unmarked souls Words became connections and connections created reality Voices expressing continuous verse Rhythm was a tightly gripped hand calmed by the presence of humanity A shattered array of faces once dispensed through a penitentiary of their own capacity Leading to crisscrossed comfort locked down by Pandora’s daydreams Times could never stay content and that was a fact we came to know Perfected nothingness of foreshadowed beginnings Where pleasure inhabits the mind I am stuck in the metamorphosis process Missing artifacts of a grasp once took for granted With memories elapsed of tales that served a deeper meaning Lingering only memento A hallowed out shell of what I once believed I was Sacrificing the impending for the now Cars screeching by; you hear expiration Cold, ruptured, morbid clocks Measuring time in cigarette buds Claustrophobia I scream but there is no to rescue for a mind Only a mirage Perfection seeping through cross-processed depictions Shower to mirror to peaked through window curtains I wait Neglecting humdrum silhouettes Talking without distraction from the reaction of the projection of the screens silent voice We sit and we watch each other talk to others who are also sitting with others not talking to each other And we are silent Sediments of empty matter adorned by wrinkles of yesterday’s promise Sporadic invasions of transparency torn apart by rolled eyes neglect You pull me in and I let you go Riding the 10:00 train back home after a busy day Pinned with half priced thumbtacks to wall of mind’s eye Eventually giving up or in
