Forget Me Not
Forget Me Not
I cannot seem to to remember where I set my keys, she says.
I have forgotten which pocket my wallet belongs in,
And I do not know my phone number.
She asked me, "How do we get home?"
Pondering the answer to the question she forgot she asked me.
She then asked me again, "Do you know the way home?"
Who are you? What is your name?
Where did you come from?
How come you are in my room?
I do not know you.
Absolute and complete silence.
Occasionally I will receive a smile or a nod,
But other than that there is an emptiness, a hollow stare.
Grandma,
Your keys are on the front table and your wallet goes in the second pocket to the right.
We turn left on Orchard and right into our driveway.
My name is Haley, I am your grandaughter.
Where are you?
Though you forgot me, I will never forget you.
I know you were afraid of being forgotten,
Your loved ones washing away with your childhood and earlier years.
Forget me not, you once said.
Those are the flowers we laid over your name in the grass.
Love,
Haley
