Forgetful
He did it again, once more,
Knowing that today is twenty-four.
How about next time I forget all about him?
Then explain that I remembered on a whim.
You stare at me with that same blank face.
While I run around ranting at a pace.
How the heck did we get here?
Now that we finally are together and everything is clear.
You can’t remember a simple thing
Not even that were no longer referred to as a fling.
Today’s our anniversary and you don’t seem bothered by it,
I swear I’m losing my mind; I’m about ready to quit!
It’s even my birthday today
You can sleep on the couch now every day.
Until thou shall forgive thee
Which won’t happen because it’s completely out of character for me.
No you can’t give me a kiss!
I really want to throw something, but I’ll just miss.
You get up from the couch coming towards me
As my body feels like it wants to flee.
You wrap your arms around me and whisper in my ear.
Saying anything to calm me from shedding a frustrated tear.
“I didn’t forget, my sweet.” You say.
My face contorts into a prompting gesture that he can continue if he may.
“I remember everything, anything that has happened between us.”
How could he be so calm after I made such a fuss?
“8, years spent together is fine and all,”
I listened intently as I felt my frown begin to fall
“But seeing you every morning and night is enough for me,
I don’t need a reminder to know it’s our anniversary.
As long as you are here
I will remember whenever you are near.
Your birthday is important, you are right,
But I don’t think that it should lead to a fight.
You are my queen, my angel, and my sweet,
Forever each and every time we meet.
I don’t worry about anything because of you.
When you’re around, I feel like there is nothing I can’t do.”
He finished and I felt my mouth go agape.
Maybe that should have been something caught on tape.
Tears well up as I look at my knight
No matter what he always made me happy with all his might.
He bends down and captures my lips in a sweet kiss
And I smile thinking about what could have really been amiss.
