Forgotten

In a world of many choices

I am offered few;

all my future choices

are sadly left to you.

I want nothing more than love

and a warm and caring home,

some food to keep my healthy,

and a safe place in which to roam.

Most people know these things

and treat me with such care,

but in all humanity

the cruelty is still there.

Too often I’m neglected,

kept in box or crate.

My stomach cannot remember

when it was that I last ate.

I am left alone,

when all I want is love.

My fate is left to those

who hover from above.

I am all alone in my small

and awful space.

The love and care I crave

are missing from my face.

My life is sad and lonely

unless you humans care.

My love is yours to own

if only you would share.

All I ask is this:

if you cannot care for me,

give me to a shelter

where I am fed and free.

If you know of someone

who has pets locked in a crate

report them to the authorities

before it is too late.
