Forgotten Altruism

Squabbles of trivial politics

In their rubber chicken circuits—

I think this façade of bipartisan

Now calls for an adjournment.

Beyond the isolationism,

There’s a possibility of altruism

If we’d put aside our criticism

For the slightest hint of optimism.

Even to economic intrusions,

There’s an all-encompassing solution.

Expand past your conclusions,

And make some contributions.

No amount of omnipotence

Can reverse our selfish prevalence

Where nothing precedes the importance

Of our own perceived distortions.

Behind tenuous situations;

A long-denied causation.

Behind the stimulations;

A sense of degradation.

For those brought low

By belittling blows

To diminished protection—

Where is the objection?

Too few have converged

Beneath selfless concerns.

If the potential could emerge,

It would change the world.
