Forgotten Rose

Forgotten roses, Oh, how sweet! But their true love, They shall never meet. For the suitor who picked them Has left them there, Has left every hope Has left every prayer Never will the lady know How deeply he cared. For his love he did not show Nor tenderness he share. He cut the roses, held them close, But knew it was no use. She would never be his girl. It was all a silly ruse. Never could they be. Why tease dear hope? Why temp it to believe? Forgotten roses, left alone Like wilted love, left unknown. What could have been had she said yes? Had he asked, would their lives be blessed? None will know For he walks alone, None beside him on the road. A forgotten rose lay in his hand, Its petals wilted, as the heart of this man.

I wrote this for a friend of mine, who was going through a really hard relationship. I realize that the words aren't really comforting to hear, but the message is still clear: If you don't stand up and talk to her, then he sure will.
