Fort of Dreams

Fort of Dreams By: Alicia Monforti It was 4 AM and we were wide awake Under the fort we made talking about the dreams we had once we grew up. We spoke in excitement with a spark in our eyes the night might’ve been dark but our futures shined bright. We wanted and waited until we turned 18 wanting all of us just live free. Its 4am and im wide awake. I don’t know if you are though. I don’t even know where you are or if your even OK its been 4 years since weve spoken. Im all grown up now. Earned a uniform and went on my way to see a world overseas. Now im back and more grown up then I ever wanted to be What happened to the kids who built a fort in my living room Living by the light of a flashlight and a dream and that seemed to be all we needed To thrive and grow and try and be a grown up Im all grown up now Have to pay to have just a living room Struggling to have more than a flashlight on in my house I have seen the world a time or two and walked in others shoes The world I once knew almost turned into two A world where children grow up in dreams and aspirations and a world that dreams turn into impossibilities. I looked for your facebook today It marked a date I tried to call No Answer. I mustve been to late Being a grown up isn’t as easy as we had dreamed. I just hope that now your gone that your dreaming all the time in a fort in my living room RIP in my Fort of Dreams
