Four Eyes
I was born with two sets of eyes
One, broken and useless
The other, of cold glass and plastic frames
I looked at the world through a window
Unable to truly cherish its beauty
To understand the complexity, within and without
Mocked and scorned for being crippled
Hated for being different
I could not help it! I could not help my curse!
Yet only able to look through the glass, I learned something
I was different, I could not witness without my false eyes
But behind that window, greater meaning was revealed
Yes I am different, yes I am crippled
But only by this mortal shell am I impaired
My inner being not harrowed, but bolstered!
I learned the heart is the source of true strength
I beheld a different world, one unseen by mortal eyes
I could not look, but I could see
