four inches wide

for eight years freedom has meant a balance beam. freedom is not balance it is not stiff. four inches wide like there’s only room for one way forward. freedom is movement. my days eaten up into chalk and glitter and tight ponytails and nerve wracking perfection. freedom is running with the wind like it was waiting for me. every practice was suffocating, like a room with the windows shut. i forgot that sports could feel like touching the sky. like breathing without lungs. so now im ready to fucking fly.
