Four Little Words
"Because you love me."
It's a simple four-word phrase. Four little words.
Four words that create a sense of angst and frustration
"You'd come with me because you love me." Would I?
Would I sacrifice my security and self-worth to please you?
"Because you love me." Don't use those words against to me,
To play mind games. To bring forth unneccessary guilt.
Because I won't obey you. I choose to love you for yourself,
I accept your flaws. But to try and manipulate me
By placing your favor in my hands is insolent.
I refuse to fall victim to something meant to seem
Harmless on purpose, when beneath the layers strikes at me.
Because I do love you, I say no. I say it for your good.
Those words are sacred. Meant for things from the goodness of heart.
Not the mendacious lips from which they fell.
