Four Summers
That summer's night I foolishly confessed my love for some boy
To my best friend
She’d tease and I’d blush oh so innocently
not knowing what was coming next
because I was
blinded by love
It was that school year I started to fail
all my classes
‘cause I’d hopelessly daydream
about someone who I loved
because I was
blinded by infatuation
It was that summer everyone tried to get me to confess my love for him
to him
I refused thousands of times over
because I knew he liked my best friend and not me
Towards her I had lost my kindness
because I was
blinded by jealousy
It was that school year you refused his love
because he was creepy
I sat in the shadows and watched as you were enchanted
and fell in love, still I supported you
even though I was
blinded by envy
It was the summer you started acting weird
you stopped talking to me, like we use to summers before
Sketchy your boyfriend appeared
and many warnings I gave
because I was
blinded with worry
This school year
you began sitting with him
you guys always looked so happy
yet you always left him for me
and I never understood why you were being so secretive
because I was
blinded with abandonment
This summer
I learned why you were so secretive
and quiet
and why you always left him for me
why we stopped talking
and why he appeared so sketchy
All the warnings I gave you
you ignored
for so long
believing that it wasn’t true
So many things you did for him
some things someone should have never done
This was the summer I learned that you sent him pictures
and danced for him
That you didn’t go over his house
just because you missed your bus
but I also learned that you didn’t do it willingly exactly
you did it because you wanted him to stay
because you promised him you’d stay
because he promised you his last name
and in the end he left you
but you never saw any of it coming..
because you were
blinded by ignorance
