Four Years

2012

The year full of speeches

I got it from my brother, my mother, her husband, and teachers

Had them weighing on my back

The pressure increases

I got to get 'em off it and figure how to ease it

They're worried about my grades

They think that I'm slacking

It wasn't that I didn't care, I was still passing

They were thinking l'm lazy and scared I was lacking

I just didn't waste time if it didn't impact me

I kept to my focus when I felt more immersed

Always knew what I was doing, but they wouldn't let me converse

Called it talking back, so, now, they've kept me reserved

I finished school early by the very next verse

2016

I was stuck in a rut

I was 18 and wondering what

Was I to do now

I've been collecting some dust

I became an adult but I was mentally stuck

School had just passed, and I had me this fright

My momentum had crashed with no target in sight

My future was a blur, and I had a lot to decide

But then I met this girl on a September night

I then made a choice on what I wanted to do

Follow my heart and what it pursued

I was blindly in love and didn't have me a clue

That she was here to stay

My motivation anewed

2020 is when I took on a risk

I was tired, always stressin’

My stuff getting lift

I left the crib for good and hoped that it would stick

I put down on a house that was needing a fix

I told my girl we could do it

Make it out on our own

This was it now, it's time to be grown

We didn't work for shitty pay

We made our money at home

I said, "We're living in the future. All we need is a phone."

We had some people thinking we didn't have all the skills

Thought we'd always be late like we we're Miss Lauryn Hill

We'd pay twice the price while our pockets stayed filled

Four years today, we been paid off the bill

2024

As I stand here and rhyme

I haven't even peaked, but this still is my prime

I stay hard headed 'cause I keep to my grind

Just to show these people that I'm doing just fine

I paid my mortgage off, so I'm all out of doubts

I throw my worries away

Every single amount

Whatever's coming next, I'll be ready to mount

And take on the challenges no matter the route
