The Fragile Noise

inspiration is the fragile noise

made as the soul courses through

the chambers of a beating heart

it is, as with the song of a bird,

with us from the crack of dawn

striking us beautifully and tremendously

but only should we listen

for it cannot be heard over the click

of keyboard keys hit in service

of self-serving bosses and teachers

for it cannot be heard over the car horns

struck in the heat of fleeting anger

and such passions of the ego

for it cannot be heard over the electronic buzz

of devices that seek to suck our attention

and leave us isolated in our infinite connection

in a certain sense it could be said divine

for it echoes in the caverns of

the wandering mind
