Frames and Lenses
I believe I shall need my frames and lenses
Yes, to see the sand beneath my feet
And eat the coconuts from the trees
But not just to see, not just to survive
I shall need my frames to revive my memories
to recognize my own reflection
to remember being told I look like a librarian
to recall the time they broke under a lover's foot
to relive myself
I shall need my lenses to see the horizon
to spot incoming ships and be rescued
to sense the grandeur of the sea
to show that there's still a future
to save myself
I shall need my frames for the past
And my lenses for the future
I believe I shall need my frames and lenses
To know who I am, and to return to her
