A Freckle Found
Yesterday, it was not there.
The one freckle that now blotches my sunburnt skin.
It lets me know that one is easily changed,
without her knowledge or consent.
It will follow me,
a reminder of that sunny day;
The way the heat bore down on us
and laughed 'till we retreated to our umbrella;
The way I looked into his eyes,
and knew we wouldn't last long in the heat.
And he knew it too.
But we sat there anyways and drank cold, fresh lemonade.
It is bittersweet, my little freckle.
I'll admit, I regret too many things.
Do I need this reminder,
telling me to return to that day and instead stay, and finish my lemonade?
When I look down at my freckle though,
I am also reminded that nothing lasts forever;
all good and bad must come to an end.
It reminds me that we are always caught in the changing tidal waves,
who leave no room for only happiness, or only hurt.
