Freckles
To be flawless is to be without flaw.
To have a flaw is to have a feature that mars your perfection.
To have perfection:
Impossible.
We are not perfect.
The sun does not reach every flower’s face, as the rain does not fall on every field.
But the sun is beautiful. The rain is beautiful.
Perfection
Is
Not
Beauty.
Flaws
Are
Beauty.
The freckles that find asylum on her face mark her disregard of sunscreen.
Her pale skin tarnished from her refusal to listen to her mother’s instruction.
Spots, blemishes, flaws.
A face full of flaws, yet glowing with beauty.
Flaws
Are
Beauty.
He stares at her face; something amiss.
Taking a cloth, he wipes away her makeup,
Releasing the specks from their Maybelline prison.
Like a fog being lifted and revealing a million stars,
There they are, he whispers.
To have flaws is to be imperfect.
To be imperfect is to be unique.
To be unique is to be beautiful.
I am not perfect.
I am not flawless.
And that’s okay.
