Sometimes

And most times

I wish I could trade brains

With someone more confident.

Yeah, I could really get a lot done.

I know that I could.

I can!

But I see how they look at me

What they must think of me

So I don’t do the things that I feel will set me free.

Then other days

On those magical, beautiful days

I shake the rain out of my hair

And I remember:

I am worthy just like you

I can breathe and feel just as you do

I can move, dance, sing, and feel the joy

I can love the night time stars

And the singing birds

I can hurt like you, too.

I hope for you that you’d be able to live a life

As true for you as you ever knew

And you don’t know me

But I know you’d wish me the same

So in this big, uncomfortable, often lonely world

I choose to believe in me

So that I can help remind you who you are too.

And little by little, we set each other free
