Free Are We?
Free are we?
Surely not me?!
Free from bondage,
toiling dusk to dawn,
millions struggling just to keep on
who are they to depend upon?
Commanding migration
discrimination
long periods of revolutionary stagnation
frustration
negotiation and rotation!
led to fruition
Open your eyes and you will see
the past, a reflector of yet to be.
United, as one,
Goals and dreams are songs to be sung.
Better yet, dreams are to be dreamed
with eyes wide open
though human progress, in many cases, is neither automatic nor inevitable
Open your deceptive eyes
Are we free?
Is true freedom even acquirable?
