Free to be Me
I write because I do not speak
without stuttering, crying, feeling weak.
My power comes from the written word;
it's my way to stand up and be heard.
Expression of the soul
my thoughts and feelings
secrets
silently shouted
I play by my own rules.
Here I'm in control.
meter, rhyme--
or not.
I need no mold.
I write because it gives me wings
Creativity, Activism,
Tears, Smiles--
Anything and Everything
I can free myself
and remain ambiguous.
I can speak my mind
and remain anonymous.
Prose is nice
But poetry strikes a chord
deep inside
that resonates outward
uncontrolled
gaining speed, gaining sound,
begging me to write it down.
