Free to be Me
America the free, because of the brave.
So why am I becoming a slave?
To thinking and doing what the government says,
by serving a wedding for Lizzy the Lez
They say I am free to have my beliefs,
but gay marriage rights are giving me grief.
You want your freedom? That’s fine. Have it your way.
But my religious freedom is still here to stay.
I’ll sell you flowers, pictures, or cake
just not for your wedding, to put my values at stake.
But the gov keeps telling me I must comply
by making the First Amendment just a big lie.
Freedom of religion, expression and speech?
I thought that I was entitled to each.
But you have antidiscrimination laws in place
to protect from discrimination of sex and race.
We both have rights, but we are both wrong,
and we’ve been fighting for far too long.
We can’t have both ways, someone has to lose.
Whose freedoms give way, whose?
It’s mine. My religion that was guaranteed for all history.
In exchange for your happily ever after story.
Apparently you are more important than me,
since the gov doesn’t stand up for my beliefs.
Because of the brave, America is free.
Which makes you free to be you, but I can no longer be me.
