Free in a Cage of Dreams
Last night I had a nightmare that silver glittery statues were trying to dance
Paralyzed and so was I
We sunk into the floorboard
I have no idea what I’m doing but today my heart feels heavier
You take me to water
Last time it was a mirage
This time I don’t lean forward
I know better than to trust what’s not moving
I watch myself feed my skepticism with my own insecurities
I watch myself choose isolation over reminders of responsibility
I watch myself stop myself from making mistakes
I found the mistake
The dancing glittery statues start to crumble to ash
The floor pulls back fast
I fall through the cracks
Now I know fear can’t kill what’s moving
I’ll always choose heartbreak over boring
I accept pain in the form of love and loss, but not longing
because that’s what it means to be vulnerable
and that’s what it means to be free in a cage
A cage
I built from the same
Rocks I found in the pond with the
Water from the mirage and the
Statues haunting my sleep
Now I’m free in a cage of dreams
