Step after step,

feet pounding the pavement.

Inhaling, exhaling, her breathing is timed and efficient.

With each pounding step

her burdens become less and less.

Breath after breath

she becomes more free

and her worries seem to escape her.

Running from her past she extends her legs,

greatening her stride and freeing her spirits.

The crisp air bursting into her lungs.

 Breath after breath

oxygen floods her arteries and her cells come alive.

Alive and ready for flight,

her past fading into the distant.

Inhibitions dissipating,

with every pump of her weary heart,

she finally gets a taste of happiness.

Legs screaming out in pain

she runs faster.

Lungs crying out in agony

she quickens her pace until she is finally numb.

Feeling nothing

but the joyous chorus erupting from every one of her cells.

Finally alive,

finally free,

they are finally given a purpose.
