Stranded

By: Lillian Ross

Sweet melody, take this place away from me

The sun, so hot, beats down on my fragile skin.

Let every measure float my worries away

As if I could sail on the deep blue waves to stray.

Show me how to find the beauty of being alone.

Oh sweet rhythm pouring into my darkest fears,

help me forget that I want far away from here.

Rhyme with me as the waves rhyme with the night winds

As the palm trees dance to the nature’s song,

my heart beats as a drum as if I belong.

As the night grows and my mind starts to wander,

the little song appears, making my dreams so sweet.

I hear the beat, beat, beating of the drum playing so freely

As the birds wings match the rhythm in my heart’s song.

Loneliness on this island has only made my heart strong.

Oh dear moon shinning down on little me

is this where I am supposed to be?

Shine brightly into my heart as if you are the sweet melody,

my absent self is left to be on this deserted island.

The music of the simplest memories will save me from here.
