Free Verse

A meek mouth releases gentle plumes of cool, peaceful air

from the same source a warm, a curling whisper takes delicate flight.

Fragile lungs exhale weightless, graceful sounds,

released by lips pink, chapped, aware, of

the choice of life and death, determined

by the sounds that accompany

these waves of meaning carried on a breath capable of opposites

holding a similar potential

in its power to burn or soothe

to build or destroy

love and not love
