Freed

I used to try to confine myself

Make me be who I was “supposed” to be

Fit into the stereotypes that plague our society

But not anymore.

As the individual hairs fell from my head

As they floated down towards the earth

As they landed in light piles on the ground

I felt myself becoming free.

The more hair that fell

The more hair that floated down towards the earth

The more that piled on the floor

The more I became who I truly am.

As I shed my old identity

Something that I had despised with all of my true being

I felt myself becoming lighter

Without the burden that the hair had held over me.
