Freedom
Freedom, o freedom: 'tis never free,
Majestic cost too lofty to know;
It captivates all hearts who see,
Its triumph: secured by glorious woe.
It dawns where rampant oppression ends,
Where cruel, disheartening chains do break;
Where tranquil, radiant light begins,
And one must toil: to win high stakes.
Where colonists wrangle tempest blow,
And soldiers trod on steepest hill;
Where pioneers forge unyielding terrain,
Save bravest perish: to sentry it, still.
Where bruised and aching souls do dream,
Hence healed dreams, unceasing, take flight;
Where passion mantles fragile hearts,
And sacred ballad, parts: in demise.
Where hope amidst dark trials rises,
Emblem of life consummate, unveiled;
Liberated by stars, which blazingly shine,
Encasing the universe: having never paled.
And in that land where freedom trumpets,
A Sovereign voice, summoning my name;
Appeals overhead: Be free, my son,
Glorious eternal shall freedom reign!
