FREE AT LAST! FREE AT LAST!
Black America has been inspired
By these words from the past
But are we truly free?
This question puzzles me?
When our fellow brothers and sisters
Are not reaching their full potential and capability
Fighting each other over land they do not own
Buying name brand clothes and shoes
But cannot purchase a home
Result to selling drugs acting like thugs
Living in the streets
Instead of starting businesses, making jobs
Getting their college degree
FREE AT LAST! FREE AT LAST!
This statement cannot be true
When you beat those who wear red
And kill those who wear blue
When you say the right words to get in bed
With a lady
But suddenly disappear
When she appears with a baby
I have come to a revelation
Black America overall does not
Have a true apperception
Of the creation, and innovation of the people we come from
The depravation of knowledge around my peers
Occasionally causes frustration
When they fail, they accept it
Because that is the expectation
FREE AT LAST! FREE AT LAST!
We are physically free
But mentally bound
And we come from a people
Who are world renowned
Losing touch with our culture
Dead brains provide home for the vulture
Ignorant, criminal, vulgar
The picture society paints in our persona
FREE AT LAST! FREE AT LAST!
But I choose to be different
I choose to break those chains
Break limitations society
Has to try to put on my brain
I will be what I choose to be
And NO ONE can stop me
Don’t believe me
Sit back and watch me
God did not intend for me
To be controlled by man
I put my trust in him
Because my destiny is in his hands
Through this life
I may fall
But through it all
I stand tall
And in the end
In appreciation of the past
I will shout with honor
FREE AT LAST! FREE AT LAST!
