FREEDOM

I’ve seen enough to know the look of defeat,

to feel the sorrow and hopelessness they feel,
to feel like you’re being punished.
But I don’t let that overcome me,
I can’t.
Because there are so many others floating, drifting, lost,
searching for something, or maybe nothing at all.
But I stand there with arms open wide,
a light to break through their darkness and
to show them
happiness, or at least how to find it.
I want to guide them to the path they are meant to follow
and away from the darkness they’ve
been living in for far too long.
I want to show them the joys of life,
and share the gift of freedom.
Freedom from all chains that bind them
to sadness, to misery.
That is my goal.
