Freedom

I want to be able to live in a world,

or a place where I am not afraid to sing my favorite song at the top of my lungs.

I want to live in a world, where I can dance to the rhythm of drums crashing,

flags waving, friends and peers marching in formation.

I want to live in a world where my poetry is heard,

a world where my poetry doesn’t fall on deaf ears,

or audiences of none.

I want to inspire and help people.

But most of all, I want to help people follow their dreams,

whatever their dreams are. I want them to stretch their wings and fly,

to no longer hold themselves back and break free from whatever bullshit reason they’ve caged themselves in.

Because they can fly,

they can grow,

and they can be the people they want to be,

the person they were meant to be. Free.

This poem is about:
Me
My family
My community
My country
Our world
