Freedom in Chains
We all wear chains
Chains on our hearts
Chains on our minds
We live in chains
And don't realize it half the time
We all wear masks
We all have binds
We bend to the will of the hive mind
All wearing a disguise
Real is rare
Unappreciated
It is embraced at arms' length
And uncompensated
When the chains break
They rattle to the floor
Causing attention; wanted or no
The masks we wear are flexible at best
They cover what's real
And cause us unrest
We wear them as an option
Or we have no choice
The world likes caution
Do we have a voice?
We want to be free
But each time we cut loose
The chains rattle
And the world comes too close to the truth
The truth we want to hide
We're thrown back
Trapped, again and again
By a world in offense
That wants to defend against
Our unique minds
Or maybe we just like to wear the masks
So used to the heavy weight on our backs
Or maybe we're just blind
With chains around our arms, tight
And masks without eyes
Bound and lost to the sight
Of what true freedom really is
