The Freedom That Comes With My Confident Stride
In this world many will never know freedom
My ancestors did not
If I was to get lost I would only need my freedom
Great ones before me I walk in shame
Never truly having known your struggle or your pain.
Mothers know pain so one day I asked mine
How she was mocked tortured and still found a way to shine
She looked at me with pride and smiled
Telling me the story of the day she asked the same thing as a child
With a proud smile and the hum of a song
She told me the story her mother told her to pass along
Its all in my confident stirde
Open your eyes why don't you see
The bruises on my back and the blood on my feet
So I step beyond hatred and smile with pride
Knowing the truth behind my confident stirde
A truth to the trials and tribulations we all call life
A truth to the reason as to why I fight
The horribe murders over century old strifes
The meaning goes beyond my confident stride
Beyond my short hair and cocoa brown style
So if you ask me why I stand the shame
The bruises black eyes and long nights of suffering pain
I will look at your brother and tell you the same
NO ONE will crush my spirit
I stand tall with a voice high and clear so you can hear it
We are all the same
It is a shame that you will never feel the same
You may never open your eyes so you can see
The whip marks and the bruises that you put on me
Although you may not I open my eyes
I smile and walk with a confident stride
Courageous and tough yes thats me
