Freedom: Life Awaits
Dear My High School Boyfriend,
I hold the universe in my hand,
Yet time is short while days go on.
Heart fooled by my own beliefs,
Love so blind, couldn't accept it was wrong.
I avert my eyes as you wait for my attention,
The stage behind you begins to focus.
You storm off because I forgot to mention,
How great you performed for everyone.
It was never you and me,
I tricked my mind to think it was.
The applause was your true love,
I became the mistress to the buzz.
Correction: There was only you and you.
There was no room for us.
I wish it weren't true.
For then, I wouldn't fuss.
The world grew tight, our souls dried up,
My head was tired and weak.
Banned from seeing my own friends,
You blocked your ears when I'd speak.
Hypnotized, tied up with shoelaces,
Left me in darkness while dancing in the sun.
Movies and adventures with other girls,
I sat alone at a table for one.
My eyes open, dripping tired tears on burning cheeks.
I awake to reality, my blurred vision more clear than a starry gaze.
Each step you took away from here brought me closer to my future.
I ignored the sounds of my thoughts while stuck in your maze.
I escaped! I'm free!
But you’re still trapped in the unawareness of who you are.
Now, the universe is too spacious to carry in my palm.
I have so much to discover: Youth, Mystery, Knowledge.
Time is a concept.
Life awaits.
