FREEDOM IS ME!
FREEDOM IS ME!
By: Leanna Everett
What makes me have a voice?
What gives me power of choice?
What brings reasons to rejoice?
Freedom.
Without freedom who would I be, how would I be able to live my dreams.
There would be no time to seek, as if shackles were placed on my feet.
Having no freedom is like having air but can’t breathe,
Or hoping but can’t receive.
My skin is shaded black but my mind fully bright,
Filled with curiosity and light,
Light that goes beyond my imagination
That brightens up the room full of anticipation.
If I lived with no freedom than my mind would be a waste
Holding back knowledge with no escape.
These hands of mine represent the ones before me,
The hands that could not be free
The hands that reached boldly.
My ancestors suffered for freedom but not for free,
They paid a price that some don’t see
They held to hope just to be beat
They fought even when they hung from trees.
That’s what freedom did for me.
I see where I want to be,
Walking on each step of opportunity.
I glance back at my history that’s is now
Looking at me shouting….
Freedom is me!
