Freedom is Power on an Island

As I sit here on an island,

I think of problems arising.

Distraction from the action,

That is life without traction,

A social person but now alone,

How on earth can I feel at home?

Do I need food or water?

Or is that only a fraction?

A portion of the life that is now in retraction.

Or do I need letters or a phone?

With nothing more to talk to than a tiny beach stone.

But I resolve it is freedom,

The very notion that conceived our own kingdom.

Because without freedom, what is life?

Is it jail without probation?

Or the key absentee of a communist nation?

Living on an island I need freedom of decision,

To be alive and strive it is the human condition,

So as I ponder my ambitions in thoughtful cognition,

The freedom to decide is my vision’s ignition.

Even without possessions freedom is an obsession,

Because I’ll climb from the bottom it is my inception,

But in freedom’s absence success cannot flower,

With one choice on the island freedom is power,

Freedom allows for choices every hour,

While those who chose an object will solemnly cower,

Although I have freedom I’ll be subject to boredom,

But those who chose an object will reconsider post mortem.

If this is a place where cowards are devoured,

On a solitary island freedom will empower. As I sit here on an island,

I think of problems arising.

Distraction from the action,

That is life without traction,

A social person but now alone,

How on earth can I feel at home?

Do I need food or water?
