Early in May our ride had begun,
on May 4th,1961.
The buses left Washington D.C. ,
and It wasn't what America wanted to see

They tried to stop us with all of their might,
but we knew what was right.
Our buses were burned and our people bruised,
body and mind completely abused.

Then we arrived in racism's backyard,
with some help from the National Guard.
We survived each of their plights,
for the sake of civil rights.
