Freedom Riders: Possible Because

May 1961, the revolution began. The search for freedom, The search for equality, The search for independence. Color created conflict. A difference in people, In place, in who we are. These brave men and women Fought for justice. Attacked by angry hate, Still continued to fight. Not with arms, but with words. Not with weapons, but with love. Beaten and bruised, Purple and black. Do these colors make them different? Violence was inevitable, A given for sure. But the lack there of Is what made a change. My cousins of color I do love. Their nature and confidence in history. Those men and women gave them power. They gave us all power. My family is no different than any other. But we are proud to be The rainbow of ethnicity That we are today. Thank you Freedom Riders For making it possible.
