Freedom of the Stage

Stage lights, clear stage, waiting crowd outside.

Until it is my moment to go,

Behind this curtain I will abide.

I feel my innumerable heart beats

Simulate a drum roll audible to only my ears.

I ponder if I could ever keep

this feeling so surreal

The vast last three seconds

Seem almost to colossal for me.

But soon the dulcet tones of the music beckons,

Opening the door to a never-ending dream.

Behind the curtain a shy, timid girl waited,

But with each solitary onto the stage,

An untamed fierceness is no longer gated.

A barrage of confidence floods me belonging to someone of another age.

Fear, anxiety, and uncertainty

Nothing but forgotten wraiths.

Onstage nothing can frighten me,

As the microphone I take.

I am prepared for battle,

The mike a lethal weapon in my hand.

For this one moment only my performance matters.

Finally I am at command.

The abundance of emotion that I’ve held,

Must be freed for I have trapped it too long.

I know of only on way to acquiesce what I’ve felt,

And that’s letting it abscond through song.

Each note sung I handle as a precious item,

Cherished with my soul.

The ballad helps me weave together

A story that in person, I could have never told.

But I tell the story proudly now

For with mike in hand, I entrust the world to see,

That it’s own story that with them I endow,

Of how for once I am free.
