Fresh Faces

Bright eyes

Looking

Waiting

For the words I'll say today

They come in with open minds

Waiting to be filled

By knowledge and logic

And reason and skill

I plan and plan to find my words

Of history, dates, places and times

Of english, words, grammar and books

Of all I can speak of before the bell chimes

I hate the finality of that final bell chime

But they'll be back tomorrow to grow a little more

I need to find water to help them along

I plan and plan to find drops to water their core

The days go by, one by one

They start to quote what I've taught their young minds

I realize they know all they could learn

In the minutes I've taken while the clock hand winds

I knew in my heartest of hearts

I tried my best, and have done all I can

I knew I had to let them go

And hope they stopped walking and ran

I looked on with pride at what they have done

For I learned as much from them, as they from me

I am sad for a moment as I watch them walk away

But I feel an excitement building for the minds they'll be

My work is done for now

My work was great and will always be

These minds will be our future

Just you wait and see.
