For a friend
Flowers shower the grave
they are meant to resemble happiness and love
but all I see is sorrow and death
because I know he didn't die of old age
or a disease he couldn't be saved from
or if he was at the wrong place at the wrong time
No,
he had hurt in his heart cuts on his arms, and tears in his eyes
things he'd kept to himself
things we should've asked about, that we should've noticed
at irst we hadn't believed it was him,
but they identified him as the broken heart and we knew
but if he'd stayed a little bit longer
we all would've confessed how we feel
how he was our light and our world our best friend
and how we knew how it felt to not always be able to see the bright side of life sometimes
he thought that he could escape the horror of the world we live in
what he didn't understand was that he was a light
and when a light goes out, darkness surrounds
now he's in the soft ground sleeping
leaving us in dispar...
So when I look at flowers, I don't see what they are meant to resemble,
I see a light that went out.
