To a Friend

Today, I made a mistake;

          I looked where I should not,

                       and I discovered memories

                                    that I think you forgot.

Sometimes I wonder...

          what went through your head.

                       How often, exactly,

                                    were you hurt by things I'd said?

I wish to take it all back,

          and change whatever happened;

                       I only want you to know

                                    how deeply I'm saddened.

I had a best friend once,

          and I made a mistake.

                       I always do things

                                     to push people away.

Maybe one day,

          we will talk again.

                        All that I really want...

                                     is for you to be my friend again.
