A Friend
Oh, him?
It’s fine.
There’s nothing between us.
He’s my best friend.
Best friend. Yeah.
But best friends don’t say “I love you”
like that.
And maybe we stare a little too long
for best friends.
It’s okay.
When you see him hug me,
it doesn’t mean anything.
It’s just our way of saying goodbye.
But best friends don’t hold each other
that long.
Or fall each other for hours
just because we know the other
needs it.
Maybe you’re imagining things.
Because there’s nothing between us.
Or maybe it’s me,
And there’s something that I don’t see.
