A Friend
Life just seems to be a popularity contest in which I tend to lose
Keeping myself isolated from the world, that’s a choice I’d involuntarily choose
Wishful thinking of befriending each and every person within my peripheral view
But that’s all that it ever was, just a wish that would never come true.
No matter how much I hoped and prayed to be accepted by my peers
I guess there was something wrong with me because my friends actually became scarce.
And now I’m sitting here feeling like a loser, with no one to whom I could express my deepest feelings, secrets and thoughts. Keeping everything bundled inside, feeling as though no one cared enough or even bothered to hear my silent cry.
And now I’m feeling like giving up, like there is absolutely no hope
Until one day when Jesus whispered in my ear
And oh the sweetest words he spoke
You can find a friend in me
I am all that you will ever need
For I won’t turn my back on the those I intend to set free
So now I want to fully give my life over to Christ
But something seems to be holding me back
A never ending battle between my flesh and spirit, has put my life off track
through it all, I’ve managed to maintain a faith so strong
Believing God will give me the strength to hold on
And as I am coming of age I began to realize I don’t need friends of this world
Because I have the most loyal, loving, selfless friend who gave his life for me
And he, Jesus Christ, my lord and savior
Is why I’m living.
