The Friend
I am unknown to all,
a secret only I alone can uncover.
I am of little concern to you,
after all, you don't know me yet.
I am your best friend,
if you are willing, but
I am your greatest enemy,
if you are that to me.
I have suffered
for you
to see you grow and
I have planned
for you
to see you fall and
I was there
for you.
Who am I?
I am not your compassion,
for you would know peace with all.
I am not your guidance,
for you would never know fear.
I am what you do not know.
I am the potential to become whatever you seek.
I am what all others can appreciate or despise.
I am the only one who could help or stop you.
I am, my dear friend,
you.
