A Friend of Mine

Cigarrette smoke in your hair

Skin, soft and pale

Delicate hands now violent

A heart of gold, blackened

The specks of light in your eyes now dim

like your spirit

You slowly fade into nothing...

I wonder where you got those scars?

The one's you cover up with a dirty sweater

At some point in your life, you loved it all

What caused your change of heart?

A baby boy with infinite hopes and dreams you once were

As I look at you now I wonder what happened to him

Is he hiding beneath your recklessness?Or does he hide behind your shame?

At some point in your life, you thought you'd change the world

Instead, it changed you

I hope you learn to feel again, friend.
