Friend In Need

A friend of mine had asked for me

not too long ago. Said he needed me,

needed my friendly services.

So I went to see him at his home.

His house is very nice.

On the beach, hot tub, pool.

Large living room, Great view,

outdoor shower, high ceilings,

with no one to share it with.

When I arrived I learned the news,

the passing of a friend. Stage 4 cancer.

Brain tumor.

"I'm so sorry. Whatever you need, I'm here."

"All I need is a good friend."

"I'll take no money from you."

"I thank you for this.

You knew the love I had for her.

How hard this is on me."

"Let's go watch the sun set."

We walked out onto the patio.

Where the only sound was the constant

subtle crash of the soft waves,

gently rubbing the shore.

The most vibrant colors came out,

from the sky that was so blue before.

After a week, I would return home.

Before I left he thanked me once more.

After his kind words I shook his hand,

and said to him "Your daughter was a gift to the world,

all who knew her will mourn."

The funeral was on a Wednesday.

I should call him, make sure he's alright.
