Friends of Mine
I’ve tried so hard
To have a have a group of friends,
But none of them lasted
In the end.
They say, “squad goals!”
But if I was on fire
They wouldn’t pull me
Off the flaming coals.
They say, “I love you”
Like they’re paid to.
But they’re only around
When they need you.
People always say, “Stay away”
When it comes to bad relationships.
But why didn’t they say anything
About toxic friendships?
Even though my chest heaved,
It took me a while to leave.
And that set them on a spree,
Of rumors about me.
Life without friends,
Is like a dark tunnel,
Without an end
Alone, alone, and alone.
It took time to get the knack
Of existing without worrying
Who’ll peep around the corner
And stab me in the back.
They say everything happens
For a valid reason
That good people get the good,
And bad get the bad.
Because for the friends I lost
Each one I gained later,
Was worth more to me,
Than all of them put together.
Friendship means
No judgement,
No personal attacks,
No discouragement,
No abandonment,
No faithlessness,
No gossip,
No “taken for granted-ness”.
And when they say, “I love you”,
It’s because they really do,
That no matter what,
They’ll always be there for you.
The world is vast,
And what’s past is past,
Don’t let that hurt you,
When you seek out people new.
Always remember,
No matter how you’re cut,
There’re still good people
Who’d help you out of a rut.
They may be hidden,
They may take time to find,
But when you do, you’ll say,
“I’m thankful these friends are mine”.
