Friendship Bracelets
I made you a friendship bracelet
Each bead strung carefully
Pearlescent plastic weaved with color
Bead after bead
Add a star, repeat
Hours pass by
And my hands were cramping
But it’s all for you
You’ll appreciate it, I’m sure
Because what could mean more
Than a bracelet made for you
So I’ll string my beads of blue
Onto the string until a bracelet’s done.
I gave you a friendship bracelet
Presented it with care
You took it from my hands
And said an empty thanks
But you were tired I’m sure
Because that smile can’t lie
I’m sure that it’s true
So I’ll make myself
A bracelet matching with you.
The bracelet stayed put
On your nightstand each day
As days and weeks past
And you forgot my face.
Did the bracelet mean nothing?
It all seems so small now
Did you ever care?
As the memories fade
The bracelet I made
Stayed untouched
A ghost of a memory.
