from afar
In the delicate fold of a stolen glance,
between the laughter,
where words brush lightly,
a spark ignites—an ember
nestled deep in my chest,
holding quiet secrets,
a heartbeat that fumbles in the silence.
Every shared moment,
cloaked in the familiar,
wraps around my longing,
like vines curling toward the sun,
each tendril a wish,
every touch electric,
but the courage falters,
the scene fades before my daring.
I dream of the leap,
the leap of a thousand stars,
suspended just above our heads,
their whispers a guide,
yet I stand, at the edge of this soft abyss,
fingers trembling, the ground beneath me
an uncertain quilt of ‘what ifs’ and ‘maybes’.
Should I break the spell,
shatter this glassy shell?
What if my words tumble,
become a bumble of unwrapping silk,
slipping through my heart’s tight grip?
Though desire swells,
it dances in shadows,
while I pen my silent sonnet,
humming a tune of longing
that plays softly in the corners of my day.
Oh, for the courage to unpeel the layers,
to dive into the crescendo of us,
for we stand on a precipice—
teetering on the brink,
the pulse of the universe
whirling quiet promises,
awaiting the gentle rustle,
a spark—
where this small crush
could unfurl its wings,
and fly.
